Hi, I'm Kris.
A hearing mom of a Deaf son, learning ASL right alongside him.
When my son was diagnosed at 18 months, I was told I didn't need to learn sign language right away. We went ahead with a cochlear implant, and it gave him access to sound. But sound alone didn't close the distance I felt between us. So we started signing, and everything shifted. He finally had a way to tell me what he needed, to be understood, to connect, instead of us both guessing our way through.
We cared so much about giving him that, we moved our family from Quebec to Ontario so he could attend a Deaf school and grow up surrounded by community.
I built the Growing Up Deaf Summit because it's the resource I wish someone had handed me the day he was diagnosed. I can't wait to welcome you.
